What Happens in a Free Therapy Consultation?
Reaching out to a therapist can feel like a big step, especially if you have been putting it off for a while. A free consultation is meant to make that step smaller.
A free 15-minute consultation is a short, no-pressure conversation. You share a little about what is going on, ask any questions you have, and we both get a sense of whether working together makes sense.
You do not need to have it all figured out
Many people wait to reach out until they can explain exactly what is wrong. You do not have to do that. If you are not sure what to say, “I think I need some support” is enough to start.
You do not need a diagnosis, a timeline, or a polished story. We can sort out the details together.
What we talk about
Every consultation is a little different, but most cover the same basics:
- What brings you in. A few sentences about what you are dealing with, such as a loss, anxiety, or patterns that keep repeating.
- Your questions. You might ask about my training, how sessions work, or what to expect from online EMDR and trauma therapy.
- Practical details. Scheduling, session length, and how video sessions work.
- Fit. Whether my approach feels right for you.

What a consultation is not
It is not a full therapy session, and you will not be asked to go into painful details. We will not start trauma processing in 15 minutes. If you are looking for grief therapy or support after a sudden loss, you can share as much or as little as feels comfortable.
Fit matters
Research on therapy consistently points to the relationship between client and therapist as one of the strongest influences on how helpful the work is. That is why I offer these calls. If I am not the right person for you, I will say so, and I can point you toward other options.
What to do before the call
Nothing is required. If it helps, you can:
- Find a quiet, private spot
- Jot down one or two questions
- Have your calendar handy
If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911. A consultation is not an emergency service.
Ready when you are
If you have been thinking about it, this is a low-stakes place to start. You can book a free 15-minute consultation or send a message first if you would rather ask a question in writing.
