Trauma Therapy That Goes Deeper Than Talking About It
Many people come to trauma therapy after years of understanding exactly why they feel the way they do, and still feeling it anyway. The insight is there. The body has not caught up.
If that sounds familiar, you are not doing therapy wrong. Understanding what happened is important, but trauma is not stored only as a story. It also lives in your nervous system, in the way you react, tense up, shut down, or stay on guard.
Why insight alone is not always enough
You may be able to explain your history clearly and still find that a certain tone of voice, a smell, or an anniversary can pull you right back. That gap between knowing and feeling is common. It usually means the experience has not been fully processed, not that you have failed to try hard enough.
How I approach trauma work
My trauma therapy combines EMDR, parts work, and evidence-based approaches to help your nervous system process what happened, not just your mind.
- EMDR helps your brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their charge. You can read more about online EMDR therapy.
- Parts work helps you understand the different protective patterns inside you, so they stop working against each other.
- Evidence-based skills support you between sessions, so you can stay steady while the deeper work happens.
We go at a pace that feels safe, and you stay in charge of what we work on and when.
Who I work with
I work with adults dealing with:
- Single-incident trauma
- Complex or childhood trauma
- Medical trauma
- Trauma that is tangled up with grief. See my grief therapy page.
What if I have tried therapy before?
Many of my clients have. Earlier therapy often built real foundations, such as self-understanding and coping skills, that deeper trauma work can build on. If you are looking for something different from what you have tried, that is a reasonable thing to want, and it is worth talking through.
If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911.
